Activities for Retirees

As the “baby boomer” generation enters their retirement years they will be looking for things to occupy their time. Many will continue to work, and some will be caring for grandchildren and aging parents. Today’s retirees are not like those of generations past. They are more active and are searching for things to keep their minds and bodies agile.

There are many, many things that retirees can do. There are cruises to a favorite island. There are road trips to anywhere a vehicle can drive. Taking care of grandchildren, planning a family reunion and visiting family are enjoyable to many individuals. For the sports enthusiast there is hunting, fishing, golfing, canoeing, hiking, and camping. Exercise is great for anyone and retirees that have more time have many options to choose from. Golf, swimming, walking, bowling, dancing and anything else you find an enjoyable activity constitutes exercise. If you are a home owner you could do a home renovation project you have been wanting to do. If you enjoy plants, try gardening. You can have a garden in your backyard; if you live in an apartment a container garden might work for you.

Other things retirees would like are wine tasting, dining in different restaurants, sewing, reading, mentoring a student, and volunteering in a hospital or school. With a little investigation you will be able to find something that you enjoy doing and fits with your schedule. Retirement doesn’t have to be boring or uneventful. Have fun with those years.
